Over 50 Minor Refugee Children Have Not Been Located Following Going Missing from State Care in Britain
In excess of 50 unaccompanied minor migrants who went missing soon after coming the UK and while under the supervision of the authorities are still missing, according to data gathered.

From 2020 and August 2025, 213 children went missing from care facilities for these minors, with 182 located and 32 still missing.
Nationality Breakdown of Unaccounted Youths
In both cases, Albanian children were the biggest contingent to go missing, accounting for a full half the total from the facilities, 68, and over 25% from the reception centres, 65.
The next most common ethnic groups to have disappeared from the two settings are Afghan nationals followed by Iranian nationals.
"The statistics are shocking. Behind each number is a scared youth who will undergone egregious human rights abuses prior to coming in the UK hoping for refuge."
Child protection specialists stressed that when representing children who have fled after being trafficked whilst vanished, they observe how their psychological and bodily well-being is irreparably affected by the exploitation they suffer during this time.
"Even a single minor to go missing represents an total collapse of the state to protect the most vulnerable and mistreated in their care. These statistics are in the several hundred."
Necessary Steps to Tackle the Situation
Experts said additional actions are necessary to find the unaccounted youths. "Minors have not opted to go missing. These children should be participating in activities in the park and studying for their exams, not working for smuggling networks in situations we know include being chained to furniture, abused and mistreated, and punished by being deprived of meals."
Legal Changes and Ongoing Concerns
In December 2023, after a extended high court case relating to solitary migrant children disappearing from all hotels, the custom of routinely accommodating children in hotels was ruled unlawful.
Instead, officials pledged to increase protection for these children by enlarging the use of care facilities. Following that legal decision an additional 44 children have vanished from these facilities, with 10 still missing and 34 recovered.

Authorities also direct children to processes and programs to help address the danger of exploitation in the UK, involving the official reporting system and the Independent Child Trafficking Guardian Service. "Even then it is challenging to stop every minor from disappearing."
