Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
