Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key adjustments:
- Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
